One Ashington hotel has bookings that are “pouring in” after being caught up in a TV scandal on Channel 4’s Four in a Bed show.
The Portland Hotel, Bar & Kitchen was one of the B & Bs vying for the coveted plaque as the show aired a new series of episodes this week and faced off against The Strathdon Guest House in Dundee, Mercia Marina in Derbyshire and Tigh Na Leigh in Perthshire.
The latter ended up taking the loot, but not without serious controversy, as its owners Karen and Graham Smith underpaid all the other hotels and said they would not be staying at any of them anymore, although they gave them high marks.
Karen and Graham have been called Four in a Bed’s “biggest cheaters of all time” by furious Four in a Bed viewers, with some even calling for them to be disqualified.
The Portland, which was represented by general manager Gary Gray and waitress Katrin Keech, with Katrin solo for most of the week after Gary fell ill, finished in third place, but has already reaped the benefits of his celebrity on television, with a big increase in custom.
Management told Chronicle Live: “Hotel bookings are pouring in from old and new customers.
“We are a small independent company surrounded by multinationals, we are proud to employ local suppliers and traders, we have a loyal following for the restaurant / bar / hotel and we would like to thank them.”
