I love banana bread so, so much that I make these Banana Bread Cookies!

I love banana bread so much that I am always looking for an excuse to bake a loaf of banana bread, or incorporate the sweet flavors of banana bread into another sweet treat. This Banana Bread Cookies Recipe fits the bill and then some!

Banana Bread Cookies

This recipe has been one of my most successful over the years - so much so, that I am updating it and sharing it again with you all again this year!

I love making cookies of all kinds, cookies are actually my very favorite thing to bake! While I do enjoy eating cake and pie, my own cake decorating skills leave something - okay, a lot - to be desired, and my cakes always end up looking like they were dropped...and pies?

Well, as much as I love them, I've never been able to master the art of the perfect pie crust, so I usually end up scooping that delicious pie pilling out of the shell and eating it straight up.

Yum.

Our Banana Bread Cookies are great for Cookie Exchanges!

I love baking cookies for cookie exchanges, writing out the recipe by hand on cute little recipe cards, packaging the cookies and shipping them out. It's so much fun!

I spend an entire morning getting everything ready and by the time the boxes are shipped...there aren't very many cookies left for me to munch on!

I need to start making two batches...

Instructions for making our Banana Bread Cookies

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

Beat together the butter and sugar until it is creamy, light and fluffy, and then add in your eggs, beating until combined, then your vanilla and bananas. Beat until it becomes a creamy, gooey consistency. On low speed, mix in the flour, then the baking soda, then the salt. Beat at low speed until its just combined.

Next, stir in the semisweet chocolate chips - do not use the mixer, you must stir them in by hand so that they don't get broken apart.

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto your lined cookie sheet, just about 2 inches apart, as they will spread! The batter will be very wet, so don't worry if you aren't able to form the dough into perfect balls. It sticks all over your hands!

Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges begin to turn a light golden brown. In my oven, I bake them for 12 minutes, and they come out really soft and moist. You might want to cook them 1-2 minutes longer for a more firm cookie.

NOTE: The batter for our delicious Banana Bread Cookies will look very wet and mushy when you plop it down on the baking sheet. It's okay, don't worry! It's supposed to look like that.

I made these yesterday, and they turned out surprisingly good! I was sure I did something wrong when the batter was really wet and just plopped it onto the baking sheets. But oh my gosh, they were so moist and airy! My kids have been devouring them, and I had a few as a midnight snack last night. 🙂 Great recipe! It's been added to my recipe book. Thank you!

Made this yesterday! Yum. I knew from comments that the batter would me moist and right out of the oven everything looked yummy. but day two, the cookies seem to be a little sticky? did I do something wrong? They are still delicious though.

  20. Anna @ Sunny Side Ups

Mmmm...these look super delicious and addicting! 🙂 Banana + chocolate is the best flavor combo! I've gotta try out your recipe! Pinned!

  21. Jenn

Oh no! Because I made these for my cookie swap, we packaged up and sent out most of the cookies and only had a little leftover. I didn't find them to be sticky...I wonder what would cause that? I am sorry I don't know. Maybe it's the starch from the bananas?

  22. Pam

These look so good! I love the taste of banana and chocolate. Thank you so much for linking your recipe up to Dare to Share, you are a Dare to Share Feature of the Day.

  23. inglish

The texture is a little like a sponge. Is this correct or did I do something wrong? Thank you

  24. Jan

I made these and they were delicious. The family loved them. Someone else mentioned they were sticky and I had that problem. I couldn't stack them but had to layer with wax paper. What did I do wrong? Won't stop me from making them again. They were awesome!!

  25. Lindsay

I am excited to make these tonight! I have a brick of butter in the fridge that is 454 grams.. How many grams is a stick, 1/4 that?

  26. Tara Mcknight

I was wondering about the butter when she says 1 stick how many grams is that

  27. Jenn

1 stick or 1/2 cup butter is equal to 4 ounces, or 113 grams.

  28. Jenn

I just googled it - 1 stick or 1/2 cup butter is equal to 4 ounces, or 113 grams.

  29. Shelba Johnson

did u crush the bananas orvput in whole

  30. Jenn

    I mashed them!

  31. Tamie

you do need to start making two batches, one for you and one for me

  32. Treasure

Made these tonigh and they were delish. They remind me of bear paws, without the processed flavour. I think next time I'll had some cinnamon though. I just love cinnamon in my banana bread.

  33. Jenn

Oh I love hearing when someone tries my recipe! I am so glad that you liked them!!

  34. Amanda

Would I be able to make a substitution for the white sugar? I have coconut sugar (similar to brown sugar) honey and maple syrup. Thanks!

  35. Jenn

I have experimented with using honey but I can never get the conversion right - try searching online for the conversion for each ingredient and see! 🙂 Good luck!

  36. Patty

If everyone is raving about these cookies, why did it get mediocre on the stars for rating it?

  37. Patty

If this is such a good recipe and getting rave comments, why are the number of stars so mediocre on the ratings?

  38. Jenn

I am guessing because only six people came back and gave it a rating?

  39. Carla

These look great. But my pet peeve in recipes is unrealistic prep times. So I'm going to find my ingredients, measure them, mix the ingredients in stages, and then put them on a cookie pan --- all in five minutes. Uh huh. If this is true, I would love to see a video where you accomplish all of that in 360 seconds. I'd make a bet that don't make 4 dozen cookies either ....

  40. Jennifer

    Gonna try it

  41. Lori

These were awesome. Since I have grandsons here helping me, we topped them each with a Marischino cherry. Possibly our new favorite!! Yum!!

These cookies are amazing. I have made them a lot, my family loves them. I have tried a few different things in them as well. Walnuts with the original ingredients, makes it awsome. I have also used butterschotch chips instead of chocolate. Will make these over and over again! Thank you for this awsome idea

What is the nutritional value of the cookies? Just looking for calories and fat. Thanks!

  46. Liz

    Melted butter or softened butter?

    About to make these!

  47. Liz

Great flavor, mine turned out spongy but soft and formed. Maybe that's the banana element? I used coconut sugar and my butter was mostly melted.

  48. Brenda

Can your banana bread cookies be frozen?

  53. Sharon Desormeaux

Just found this recipe and would love to try. Wondering if i can use frozen bananas.

  54. Jenn

I haven't tried it myself, but I think it would be okay if you let them defrost completely first.

Just made them they are delicious. Very easy to make. Will make them again

  56. Nik

Has anyone tried using brown sugar instead? ? excited to try making this for the first time!!!

  57. Hope Gray

Love! I just made these and they ARE the most delicious banana chocolate chip cookies EVER! My husband is eating all of them now. He says they are now his favorite. I used 1/2 cup white sugar and half cup brown sugar (instead of just one cup white sugar) and they are Amazing!

  58. Jenn

I am so glad that you liked them!!!!!!

  59. Nicole

My fav banana cookie! Just made them for the 2nd time. Do you store them in an airtight cotainer or the fridge?

I weighed my bananas so I could get accurate nutrient information and I used 430g banana for anyone wanting a more exact measurement. I also used only 3/4 cup sugar and 3/4 cup mini chocolate chips and tasted just as good with less sugar. I also left out the salt because I used salted butter.

    Nutrition info for anyone wondering:

    I made 53 cookies
    1 cookie is:
    68 calories
    2.8g fat
    10g carb
    5.6g sugar
    1g protein

  60. Deborah Rowe

Quick to mix up and made 48 cookies! Just be sure to give them room as they do spread put as they cook. I'd make this recipe again.

    Banana Bread Cookies Recipe (29)
These cookies turned great! I didn’t have the little chocolate chips, so I just chopped up the bigger ones. I also added some chopped walnuts and some cinnamon. They remind me more of a cake cookie than a banana bread. It’s small like a cookie, with the taste of banana bread. With a little bits of chocolate and a hint of cinnamon. Pure deliciousness!

  63. Rita Gillett

Just made these tonight and they are delicious! I used butterscotch chips and pecans rather than the walnuts and choc chips. I would do that again! Now I am wondering how to store them! I hope they don’t get soggy! They are perfect right now!?

  64. Jenn

I am so glad that you like them! I had an issue storing them too - they tend to get "wet" after a day or two, and I haven't been able to figure out how to stop that. LOL

  65. Alora

Can you use gluten free flour?

  66. Jenn

Yes, but the consistency will likely be very different.

  67. Elizabeth

    Banana Bread Cookies Recipe (30)
Delicious. Was looking for something new to try that wasn't just an alteration of regular banana bread (snickerdoodle banana bread, chocolate banana bread, cinnamon roll banana bread, etc. My kids devoured the first batch right from the oven, including one that refuses to eat regular banana bread. Will definitely make this again.

  68. Jenn

YAY! It is my favorite way to use up bananas!

  69. Lise Ode

Wow! These cookies look amazing. I can't wait to try this recipe. Thank you for sharing.

    Banana Bread Cookies Recipe (31)
These are delicious! How should I store them?

  71. Jenn

They honestly do not store well - they become "sticky" after a few days. I would store then in the fridge, but not for long.

  72. Meredith

    Banana Bread Cookies Recipe (32)
We all love these at my house! The only thing I do differently is add a little cinnamon. I make them over and over and over and over again.

  73. Jan

Can you use coconut oil instead of butter for this cookie recipe? Cookies look delicious and comments made by others is a must try

  74. Jenn

YES! I switch out coconut oil for butter in tons of baking!
