Carving or turning green wood is certainly faster and easier than working with dry stock. But sometimes the extra work involved with slowly and carefully drying the wood to avoid checking hardly seems worth the trouble. Not any more! Preservation Solutions® Pentacryl Green Wood Stabilizer is a revolutionary new product that combats the negative effects of drying by displacing water and moisture in the wood fibers. Your wood will dry quicker and more evenly, and the Pentacryl residue even lubricates your tools as you work. This non-toxic solution doesn't stain the wood or affect finishing in any manner. The recommended method of application is total immersion, but the product can also be brushed or sprayed. Compared to the traditional wax coating method, you'll find the drying time reduced by as much as 90% with Pentacryl. On average, a green 6" x 6" x 2" bowl blank would absorb 2 ounces of solution, be fully saturated in a week, and, if turned thin, dry in about three weeks.

Wood Juice is formulated to treat dry and semi-dry wood with a moisture content between 15-25%. It works similar to Pentacryl and prevents future cracking. How to use: Wood Juice is easy to use, you simply soak or brush the product on the wood.
PENTACRYL is formulated to penetrate green, wet wood with a moisture content above 25-30%, as the moisture in the wood helps the penetration. If you have wood that is semi-dry with a moisture content between 15-25%, use our WOOD JUICE. PENTACRYL works by completely saturating the wood cells and displacing the water.
Pentacryl was developed to meet this challenge. It is a stabilizer that will prevent green wood from cracking, checking and splitting as it dries. Pentacryl also prevents warping and irregular drying.
If you cut the disc from green wood and immediately soak it in "PEG" (Polyethylene glycol) it will normally prevent the splits. But it must be done as soon as it is cut.
Apply Pentacryl by brushing on or by full submersion. Pentacryl will not discolor the wood and will not oxidize, decompose, or migrate in the wood when exposed to different degrees of temperature and humidity.
Pentacryl contains a mixture of silicone polymers and Paraffin wax dissolved in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents (like Mineral spirits). The pale amber color liquid is nonhygroscopic and does not discolor wood.
Nothing fancy here, a standard toaster oven is the “go-to” hobbyist's dry oven for this process. Set your toaster oven to 220° F and place your wood inside. After several hours take your piece of wood out and note the weight and time. Place your piece of wood back in the oven for several more hours.
Some of the woods that you rarely see stabilized are Bocote, Ironwood, Cocobolo, Snakewood, Ebony and African Blackwood. My experience with some of the burls, especially Buckeye burl is that they are pretty soft if not stabilized. Hope this helps!
Regardless of what method you use, once you get them "dry", you need to further dry them to oven dry state in an oven at 220° F for a minimum of 24 hours for best stabilizing results.
The stabilization process removes moisture from the wood pieces by putting them into a vacuum chamber that sucks out all the air. You then introduce an acrylic resin, let it saturate the wood, and then remove it from the chamber so that the resin can cure, usually with a supporting heat treatment.

Simply pre-seal the end grain. A light coat of a 2lb cut of shellac will work great for this. You can also use a solution of glue size. Glue size is basically a solution of PVA glue and water (dilute the glue by about 90%).
