Having an event coming up and not sure how many cupcakes to get? Trust me, we’ve all been there. That’s why I made an easy to follow cupcake serving guide for all different events!
The general rule of thumb for most gatherings is to have approximately 1.5 standard size cupcakes per guest. It will vary depending on whether there will be other desserts of more than one flavor of cupcake.
Why 1.5?
This is the average baseline of how many cupcakes you will need for a basic gathering where cupcakes are the primary dessert along with a meal. This number will increase if you have two or more flavors of cupcake; some of your guests will likely try at least two flavors.
If you’re having a gathering with more than one dessert I recommend 1.25 cupcakes per guest.
Having more than one flavor of cupcake? I recommend 2 cupcakes per guest.
What about weddings?
For a wedding in which there will be an appetizer, meal, cupcakes and other desserts, you should plan on 1.25 cupcakes per guest. However if you are offering more than one flavor of cupcake you should plan for 1.5 cupcakes per guest as a few people will likely try other flavors.
