Jump to Recipe

Hands down the easiest Guacamole Recipe ever! There are many many ways to make Guacamole and none of them are wrong, when I was introduced to this recipe I was a believer, and oh so simple. Using only the best fresh ingredients makes such a difference to a delicious tasting Homemade Guac.

Guacamole is an avocado-based spread and it’s delicious. It’s essentially a ripe avocado mixed with tomato, onion, chili peppers, lime juice, and salt. As I said, there are many ways to make Guacamole, this is a recipe I came across while in Mexico and I truly loved the flavor of it. Now it could have been that the Avocados were Ah-ma-zing being so fresh and ripe but I loved it regardless.

This recipe will use some Salsa Verde, which you can make fresh and I recommend. My Salsa Verde Recipe uses roasted tomatillos and is super simple to make. It's worth the extra effort to make yourself and only enhances the end result of homemade guacamole or use your favorite bottled salsa in this recipe.

When given the option, I will make fresh Green Salsa because it makes all the difference and it’s really easy too!

You will need about ¼ cup Green Salsa, 1 Ripe Avocado, Lime Juice, and Salt. Let the natural ingredients enhance the flavors of this spread. Blend together using a molcajete or mash with a bowl using a fork to combine ingredients and serve.

It’s crazy how quick and easy it is to make Guacamole. Don’t overthink it and always always make guacamole whenever you serve your favorite Mexican Recipe. Your family will thank you.

And did you know that Guacamole has health benefits too? Avocados have monounsaturated fats and fiber which help both the heart and digestive system.

If you don’t already know, just about everything tastes better with Avocadoes. Here are a few to get you thinking!

  • Toast
  • Deviled Eggs
  • Soup
  • Condiments
  • As a spread
  • Served with Fish
  • Mixed in Salad Dressings

The list could go on but you get the idea. I mentioned about but want to mention again. Make sure to check out my Green Salsa Recipe. Oh, it’s delicious and really easy especially if you take a few minutes to plan and roast the vegetables yourself.

How to Remove Pit from Avocado

When making Guacamole slice Avocado in half using a sharp knife and then twist the halves apart. To remove the large pit hit the blade of the knife into the pit. It will lodge itself into the pit and you can easily lift the pit out of the avocado

Next, with a sharpe knife slice thin strips into the avocado in both directions forming cubes. Use a spoon to lift out ripened avocado from the shell and into a bowl. The spoon is a quick and easy way to remove all the avocado and not leave any behind in the shell.

Add cubed avocado, salsa verde, lime juice and salt and mash to combine. Allow to sit for flavors to come together. Add additional salt and pepper to taste.

I promise you will love the salsa and it will elevate your Guacamole to the next level too!

How to store Guacamole and keep it from turning Brown

Step 1Spread top of Guacamole to form a flat surface
Step 2Add a thin layer of lemon juice on top to form a barrier
Step 3Place plastic wrap on the surface of the guacamole to seal and to keep air out
Step 4Store in refrigerator
Step 5Remove lemon juice when ready to serve

How long will Guacamole Last?

If you properly store guacamole it will last 3 or 4 days in the refrigerator. Remember to wrap it tightly. The key is to flatten the top surface so you can place plastic wrap on top pressing it on the guac.

Can I Freeze Guacamole?

Freeze Guacamole for 3-4 months. Seal and store in freezer Ziploc containers making sure to remove any excess air. Lay flat. Thaw in refrigerator for 24 hours before serving.

How long should it Sit?

Allowing Guacamole to sit before serving is a good idea. It allows the ingredients to meld together. I recommend allowing Guacamole to sit for 3-4 hours. Store tightly sealed in refrigerator.

How to take the Bitterness out of Guacamole

Sometimes ingredients can be bland or produce a bitter taste. An avocado that is not ripe will be bitter. Add ½ teaspoon of sugar per cup of guacamole to reduce bitter taste. Adjust sugar as needed.

How to pick a Good Avocado for Guacamole

Choosing a good Avocado is very important. The avocado should yield to a firm gentle pressure when ripe. They will have a darker color when ready to eat but colors will vary. Always check by holding an avocado and giving a gentle squeeze. It should be firm but not hard.

Should Guacamole be Smooth or Chunky?

I personally love a homemade guac chunky. It lets everyone know it's fresh and not made from a powdered blend. However, a more smooth guac is easier to spread on toast.
