The Drake Relays begins on April 24 and concludes on April 26. Before high school action picks up in Des Moines, the top track and field athletes from the Iowa City area recorded great performances.
Notably, the Iowa City West boys track and field team clinched a team title at the Forwald-Coleman Relays on April 17.
High school soccer, tennis and golf have also continued to deliver standout results.

Girls
Sydney Dee, Sr., Solon
Dee helped the Solon golf team secure a team title at the Williamsburg Girls Golf Invitational on April 16.
Dee placed second by shooting an 83 over 18 holes.
Maeve Bowen-Burt, Fr., Iowa City High
Bowen-Burt took home gold in two events at the Forwald-Coleman Relays.
The freshman placed first in the 400 meters (1:00.50). She was a member of the 800-meter sprint medley relay team that clinched first place. She was also a part of the fourth-place 4x400 relay team.
Elaina McDonald, Sr., Iowa City Liberty
McDonald earned a close singles win during the Liberty tennis team’s 5-4 win over Western Dubuque on April 15.
The fourth-year Lightning dropped the first set, 4-6, then clinched the second set, 6-4. She secured the third set (1-0 (10-2)).
Maria Monestina, Sr., Iowa City Regina
Monestina found the back of the net for the first time this season during Iowa City Regina soccer's 1-1 tie with Bellevue on April 14.
The fourth-year Regal scored on her only shot on goal.
Ainsley Wilson, Fr., Iowa City West
Wilson earned a first-place finish for the Iowa City West golf team at the MVC Triangular on April 15.
Wilson shot a 39 over nine holes to share first place with Xavier’s Hayley Morris.
Boys
Abdala Ebdala, Sr., Clear Creek Amana
Ebdala racked up three goals during CCA boys soccer’s 9-2 win over Independence on April 15.
Ebdala also notched two assists against the Mustangs.
Bernoli Luvandu, Soph., Iowa City West
Luvandu earned gold for Iowa City West track and field at the Forwald-Coleman Relays.
The second-year Trojan placed first in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, seven inches.
Sam Maddhi, Sr., Iowa City Liberty
Maddhi clinched a singles and doubles victory during the Liberty tennis team’s 7-2 win over Western Dubuque on April 15.
Maddhi won the first set, 6-1, before he won the second set, 6-0, in his singles win. He also earned a doubles win with teammate Noah Gilbert (6-2, 6-4) in two sets.
Lucas Riley, Sr., Iowa City High
Riley recorded an assist during City High boys soccer’s 2-0 home win over Iowa City Liberty on April 15.
Riley, who played in his first game since suffering a concussion, dished the ball to Wagdi Darya for the Little Hawks’ first goal of the match.
Evan White, Jr., Iowa City Regina
White was a scoring machine during Iowa City Regina boys soccer’s 10-0 shutout win over Bellevue on April 14.
The third-year Regal recorded three goals and tacked on an assist against the Comets.
