Background[]

Mushrooms were in the game as a visual detail since the pre-release versions, until the Sailor Update replaced them with the current mushrooms. But they were just a visual detail, and could not be gathered. Some were red and white, and others were yellow.

Details[]

As mushrooms are abundant and can be sold for a relatively high price, they are an easy way to make a lot of money, even if you only gather them on the way to other activities.

In contrast to normal items, the mushrooms are collected into the basket and do not take up space in the backpack. The mushrooms cannot be eaten, fed to Dog, put into another container, sold to Bear, etc. This is due to the Mushroom Hunter's initial warning that some wild mushrooms may be poisonous, and experience is required to distinguish them from the edible ones. Their only purpose is to be sold to the Mushroom Hunter. As of version 1.8, there is no way to find out which mushrooms you currently have in your basket without selling them to Mushroom Hunter.

Sometimes mushrooms are sold on Television channel Shopping Bonanza. When delivered, they also go directly into the basket.

List of mushrooms[]

There are 29 types of mushrooms, not including 2 types of truffles. Dynamite is received after submitting 4, 8, 14, and 22 unique types of mushrooms respectively to the Mushroom Hunter.

The Mushroom Hunter will buy mushrooms from the player at set price points. 1-star mushrooms cost 50 coins, 2-star — 100 coins, 3-star — 200 coins, 4-star — 400 coins. If the player is selling a type of mushroom to the Mushroom Hunter for the first time, the Mushroom Hunter will pay 2x the normal price.

Each kind of mushroom has a unique appearance and can be found in different areas at different times; for example, the Dusky Bolete only appears at night, and Blewit only pops up on rainy days.

It seems that after a rainy day, a lot more mushrooms of all types appear.

The Campground and the RV Park are good starting points for mushroom hunting, as more than half of the mushroom types can appear there.

Truffles[]

After all mushrooms in the guide are found, the mushroom hunter will teach the Dog how to find truffles, which are dug up exactly like the dinosaur bones for the Museum. A black truffle is worth 750 coins, and a white truffle is worth 1250 coins. Each of them also gives double the reward when submitted for the first time.

Trivia[]

  • If you talk to a Demolition Duck before you find the Mushroom Hunter, the duck will say that their dynamite was stolen by someone who wasn't wearing glasses. The Mushroom Hunter has bad eyesight, so they took the dynamite thinking those are scented candlesticks.
  • Since they have bad eyesight, the Mushroom Hunter thinks Sasquatch is their old friend (the name the Mushroom Hunter calls you is random for each player).
