History[]

  • 3 May 2002: The Transport Department (TD) invited public tenders for the franchises of seven new green minibus (GMB) routes in six groups, of which this route was one of them.[1]
    • Under the then GMB operator selection system, "new entrants to the GMB industry" accounted for 10% of the total score. It is rare for the Sai Kung P.L.B. (Maxicab) (No. 1 & 2) Company Limited to win the right to operate a route directly without spinning off its subsidiaries.
    • It has been said that the Transport Department (TD) has considered that the patronage of the existing minibus routes in the district will drop after the commissioning of the MTR Tseung Kwan O Line, and has therefore launched a tender exercise for four routes, with priority given to operators who had to cancel their routes.[2]
  • 15 August 2002: Route 109M entered service, running between Oscar By The Sea and Hang Hau Station to tie in with the imminent commissioning of the entire MTR Tseung Kwan O Line and to replace the illegalresident buses.[3]
  • 25 June 2021: Real-time Arrival Information System was introduced to this route.[4]
