Is Nordic Valley good for beginners? ›

Nordic Valley is a beginner friendly ski slope that offers the terrain any first time rider would feel comfortable on. Start your day on our magic carpet and as you you progress, you can make your way over to our beginner chairlift.

Skyline Mountain Base LLC purchased the resort from America First Credit Union in 2014. Skyline Mountain Base has changed the name back to Nordic Valley and has plans to enlarge and expand the resort over the next few years.

Generally, beginner slopes are between 6% and 25%, intermediate slopes are between 25% and 40%, and expert slopes are 40% and up. If every slope on the mountain were a perfect right triangle, it would be easy to calculate the grade or percentage of the slope.

Some terrain may be closed due to potential hazards. Please respect our signage and closures. Nordic Valley discourages the use of electronic devices (cell phones, music players or earphones) while skiing/riding, or loading or unloading lifts. Nordic Valley highly recommends wearing helmets for skiing and riding.

In 1969, Robert Redford bought the land now known as Sundance and envisioned the careful growth of a community committed to the balance of art, nature and community. Today, Sundance offers an atmosphere steeped in cultural heritage.

With 500 acres of accessible terrain that can accommodate beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers and riders - future plans include a new gondola, new lifts, a retail village to accomodate a year round activities.

The Toughest of Them All. While all diamonds are known for their strength and durability, black diamonds are tougher than any other diamond. They measure a 10 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, which means they are very difficult to cut and polish.

Green Ski Runs: The Beginner

If you're hitting the slopes for the first time, opt for green ski runs. Remember that all experienced skiers started out as beginners, so there's no shame in taking it slow! These pistes are wide and shallow, and the gradient is less than 25%.

The best place to find beginner slopes is at Snow Summit Ski Resort. With a vertical drop of only 1,200 feet, the mountain is a great place to learn how to snow plough without getting in the way of an expert skier. 55% of the area is designed for beginners, and is one of the most fun Big Bear Mountain things to do.
