Get ready for an exciting addition to the Stanford Cardinal swim team! The future is bright for this rising star.
Fitter and Faster Swim Camps, our proud sponsor, is thrilled to share the commitment news of Soren Carlson, a talented swimmer from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Swimming in college is a dream come true for many, and Fitter and Faster is here to celebrate these athletes and their journeys.
Soren Carlson has verbally committed to join the Stanford Cardinal in the fall of 2027, bringing his skills and dedication to the Palo Alto shoreline. In his own words, he expresses gratitude to his support system, including God, family, and friends, as well as his coaches who have guided him thus far.
Carlson's swimming career has been nothing short of impressive. As a freshman, he made a splash at the New Mexico State Championships, securing top-8 finishes in the 50 free and 100 free. His relay performances were equally impressive, anchoring his team to medals. A year later, he dominated the state championships, sweeping his individual events and contributing to relay titles. His times in the 50 and 100 free were particularly noteworthy, setting personal bests and achieving his first time under 21 seconds in the 50 free.
But here's where it gets even more impressive: Carlson's success continued into the spring season. Swimming for Charger Aquatics, he set new personal bests in the 50, 100, and 200 free at the Sectionals meet in Austin. His assault on his own records continued, breaking the 1:40 barrier in the 200 free and consistently improving his times.
And this is the part most people miss: Carlson's long course season was just as successful. He dominated the Western Zone Senior Championships, winning the 100 and 200 free and setting new personal bests. With most of his junior and senior years still ahead of him, Carlson has ample time to refine his skills and improve his times.
When Carlson joins the Stanford Cardinal in 2027, he'll be stepping into a program that finished second in the ACC in their inaugural year. Stanford's 2025 men's NCAA championship performance was impressive, earning them an 8th-place finish overall. The team has already secured an impressive recruiting class for 2026, with a focus on strong sprinters. But it's Carlson's class that seems to be making waves, with commitments from four of the top 20 swimmers in SwimSwam's early recruit rankings.
So, what does the future hold for Stanford Cardinal swimming? With Carlson and his talented classmates joining the team, the program is poised for success. But here's the controversial part: will they be able to fill the shoes of their graduating top finishers in the 50 and 100 free? Only time will tell. What do you think? Will Stanford continue to dominate, or will other ACC schools step up? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
