Laughed my ass off. It aged wonderfully.

Kathleen Turner yelling "ow my balls" was one of the funniest things I've seen in a while, although the moment was cut short directly afterward when she screamed the n-word.

Famed brain surgeon Dr Michael Hfuhruhurr (Steve Martin), unhappily married to cruel gold-digger Dolores (Kathleen Turner), falls in love with a disembodied brain (voiced by Sissy Spacek), in this science fiction black comedy directed by Carl Reiner.
It has a wonderfully offbeat tone, bringing together all sorts of disparate elements into its imaginative and often surreal story, making it feel distinctive. There are a lot of really memorable moments, like Micheal doing two brain surgeries at once to save time, or the increasingly unusual sobriety test he has to take part in involving handstands and backflips.
The first act reminded me of the rapid fire style of The Jerk, and was definitely the strongest part, as it gets more inconsistent…

Cinematic Time Capsule1983 Marathon - Film #39
”Into the mud, Scum Queen!”
You may murmur all you like, but my skull's got a real soft Dr. Hfuhruhurr’s madcap method of cranial screwtop surgery. And yes, I’m aware it’s supremely sophomoric and super silly. But honestly, when I’m watching Steve Martin going this flat-out nutso, I don’t think there’s a girl floating in any jar anywhere that’s as happy as I am.
FUN FACT: David Cronenberg was Steve Martin's first choice to direct this film after Martin saw Scanners. However, Cronenberg turned it down because he was busy working on Videodrome and wasn't interested in making a comedy. Now, that could have been the kind of monster mashup that would’ve baked my brain for sure…
”I know there's something weird going on with you and that brain!”

If you asked a teenager what their favourite Steve Martin film was, chances are one of two things would happen. 1) they would respond with 'who?' or 2) they would say Cheaper by the Dozen, because they watched it last Christmas and mega lolz lmao. If this does ever happen, and you're in the mood to educate them, point them toward The Man With Two Brains. Made in the early 80's, when Martin's line of zany, deadpan comedy was arguably at its peak, there's no doubt this wonderfully bonkers love letter to earnest 50's B-movies often works so well in terms of tickling the funny bone, telling the intentionally melodramatic and overwrought tale of Dr. Hfurrhurrur's love of a talking…

I bet this lowkey inspired Yorgos Lanthinos' 'Poor Things'. However, unlike the aforementioned film — this was a riot.

The Man With Two Brains will always be in my humble opinion, the funniest movie ever made.

"He died in 1894. He was the first person ever to be hit by a car."
If I were feeling a little bit smarter/less preoccupied I might try to launch a case for this as a satire of the objectification of women - women who aren't brains in jars, that is - once Dr. Hfuhruhurr falls in love with Anne Uumellmahaye, he congratulates himself on finally falling for a woman's brain (ha, ha), then proceeds to completely lose his mind, almost murderously so, to find a female body that fits his precise desires in order to transplant her into it. That would be an even bigger waste of time than most of my reviews, though, since this is one of…
