Interpol shares ‘Gran Hotel’ video, announces pop-ups in New York, LA and more

Interpol released “Gran Hotel”, a single The flip side of pretending it’s out this Friday via Matador. (Pre-order it on vinyl.) The song comes with a music video directed by former Dum Dum Girls bassist Malia James. It’s a voyeuristic tragedy, with frontman Paul Banks moving forward while a couple in peril backs away. The video matches the intensity of the track, raising the stakes of “Gran Hotel’s” already dark sound. Watch it below.

Says Malia, who also recently directed the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘These Are the Way’ video, “While attending film school in Boston, I had a period where I thought I would give up. my dream to realize to travel and document the lives of musicians; I photographed as many concerts as possible. At that time, I went to see this *new* band Interpol play at the Middle East Upstairs, a venue not much larger than my living room. It was jam-packed. on the wall with people completely bewitched by the band – and for good reason. I met Daniel after their next gig in town and we remained friends as we both traveled the world so over the years, not only have I seen them play countless times, but the music has been deeply embedded in the tapestry of so many chapters of my life. to have been able to collaborate with them and delighted to share.

In honor of the release of The flip side of pretending (Interpol’s seventh studio album), the band will host Town of Big Shot, a pop-up exhibition in New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Tokyo and London. It’s a collaboration with photographer Atiba Jefferson and Brain Dead Clothing and here are more details via Matador:

Each event/space will host a gallery of exclusive Jefferson photographs from Interpolcaptured throughout the disc’s creation, alongside special items available for purchase, including limited editions Interpol x Brain Dead T-shirts (2x designs), an exclusive zine of Jefferson designed by Brain Dead photography, and ultra-limited skateboards designed by Jefferson in partnership with Girl Skateboards. In-person meet-and-greets and Q&As with band members, Jefferson, and Brain Dead will also take place at select events.
