Man found dead near Portland Beach Road by police
A MAN has been found dead by emergency services just off Portland Beach Road following a call for social assistance.
The road was closed last night after police received a report around 6.20pm on Monday March 21, raising concerns for a 70-year-old man in Weymouth.
After an investigation, officers alongside the ambulance service located the man in the main Chesil Beach car park, just off the beach road, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Portland Beach Road was closed by police around 7.45pm until around 9.20pm while emergency services worked on the scene.
A spokeswoman for the force said: ‘Dorset Police received a report at around 6.20pm on Monday March 21 raising concerns for the well-being of a 70-year-old man in Weymouth.
“Officers conducted investigations and located the man in a parking lot near Portland Beach Road.
“The ambulance service attended the scene and unfortunately the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death and HM Coroner has been advised.”
The spokeswoman also confirmed that it was not a collision.
A South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) spokesperson added: ‘We were called at 7.15pm on Monday March 21 to an incident in Portland. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances and one air ambulance.
