One of Toronto’s most famous restaurants becomes Earls

It looks like one of the most famous restaurants in Toronto’s culinary scene is going to make way for the Earls restaurant chain.

Lee at King and Portland will soon be gone and will be replaced by an Earls according to a press release.

The restaurant is named after its iconic chef, Susur Lee, who, in addition to directing the famous spot, is also known for his many television appearances, including on shows like Iron Chef.

In addition to the King and Portland locations, there will also be another new location, Earls Manulife Center, which will open later. A previously announced Yorkdale location is also opening.

This means Earls, which has been in business for 40 years, will have more than 70 locations across North America.

King and Portland and Manulife locations should be equipped with patios and new menu items should be available.

The already existing Earls in King and York will also be largely renovated to become “Earls Financial District”.

“We’ve had such a great response to our brand in the Toronto market and we’re incredibly proud to be able to open two more locations downtown and ultimately reach more customers,” said Kristin Vekteris. , brand manager of Earls. “Each downtown location will have a completely distinct design.”

These distinct designs are meant to make Earls’ individual restaurants look less like a chain and more like distinct restaurants with their own personalities that match the community. This means that they recruit local artists to create work for the new locations in Toronto.

Earls Yorkdale is scheduled to open in spring 2023, King and Portland are scheduled to open in fall 2023, and Manulife is scheduled to open in early 2024.

Lee will have its last service on December 31, 2022 and is expected to reopen in a new location around the corner in March 2023.
