These 9 Metro Phoenix restaurants and bars are now closed

Metro Phoenix is ​​full of restaurants and bars. Each mall and mall offers a range of great options for lunch, dinner, or a snack.

But with this amount of spots, every month some have to go. This month, a few longtime restaurants served their last regulars, a brand new Italian joint called it quits, and a few spaces got some sort of evolution.

These nine restaurants and bars in Phoenix, Gilbert, Scottsdale and Tempe are now permanently closed.

House of Tricks, Tempe’s longtime dating destination, has finally closed. The restaurant’s owners announced their impending retirement in December 2021, and now seven months later, the Tempe institution has served its last customer. The restaurant has been open for over thirty years.

Twisted Grove closed to become Collins Bros. Chop house.

The Twisted Grove restaurant in Hayden Road has closed. The restaurant was the second concept of now acclaimed restaurateur Christopher Collins.

“As we grew, we realized that instead of adding a new concept and saturating the restaurant cluster, we wanted to evolve Twisted Grove into the accessible chophouse this neighborhood deserves,” said Collins in a press release.

The restaurant underwent a brief makeover and is reopening as Collins Bros. Chophouse on July 8.

King’s Restaurant
The Chandler restaurant at Roy’s Restaurant has closed after 15 years. The restaurant was part of a declining national chain that maintains another location in the Valley, at Desert Ridge. The restaurant serves a fusion of Hawaiian and Japanese dishes.

The Golden Daisy
After months of drama over its liquor license, Golden Margarita in downtown Phoenix has closed. The restaurant and bar was a popular nightlife destination, serving Mexican food during the day and switching to cocktails and live DJs at night.

In the North Scottsdale area, a small market has opened with counter service, fresh pasta and Italian produce. S. Maranto’s opened six months ago before closing the doors. At the counter, the customer could order a selection of pasta dishes, salads and sandwiches. A bar serves wine, cocktails, and homemade limoncello. The owners posted the closing announcement on social media.

“Our team has put tremendous effort and passion over the past six months to serve our community with pride and scratch food,” the post read. “Unfortunately, our concept was never able to catch fire.”

The shelter cafe
Located in the Melrose neighborhood of Phoenix, the Refuge Cafe served a purpose. The small cafe raised funds for the organization Catholic Charities Community Services. Now, with affordable housing poised to take over, the cafe has stayed true to its mission to help those in need and has agreed to close.

Pomo Pizza Gilbert
Located in historic downtown Gilbert, Pomo Pizzeria has closed. The local chain has other restaurants in Phoenix and Scottsdale. The Italian restaurant served pizzas accompanied by salads, sandwiches and pastas.

Bill’s market
Bill’s Market went off with a bang. This six-decade-old Tempe market announced its impending dying days on social media, inspiring a storm of customers to line up for chorizo. The famous chorizo ​​was in such demand that the market limited customers to five pounds each. During the market’s last weekend, customers lined up at the small store on Apache Blvd. to get their final dose.

Rhythm & Wine
Far North Scottsdale’s Rhythm & Wine spot has closed to undergo a makeover. The wine bar and restaurant have closed, but it is set to reopen as a take-out-only location called Jalapeno Inferno Ghost Kitchen & Cantina. The restaurant will continue to have a full-service bar that will also sell beer, wine and on-the-go cocktails to accompany takeout.
