It’s the NEW year and resolutions are the talk of the talk. They’re great… if we stick to them. 🙂 Instead of calling them resolutions this year… let’s keep it simple and call them GOALS. Essentially, that’s exactly what they are until we complete them. Goals sounds much more attainable and let’s be real, we all have some kind of goals or projects we’ve been meaning to check off our to do list! Between work and life balance + feeling the days of the week pretty much blending together, finding new ways to get organized and simplify daily tasks isGOALS.
As we tackled the first month of the year with a life audit and pressed the refresh button in different areas of our personal/professional lives, I wanted to do the same within my wardrobe. Keep following along as I share my style tips for simplifying getting ready when you don’t have much time but want to still be stylish, put together and slay the day. Or maybe it’s a last minute event and you’re staring at your closet like you have nothing to wear? Either way, let’s get read into it!
There are two types of people in the morning. People who plan their outfit the night before and people who wake up and decide the morning of. Which one are you? If you’re like me, I sometimes hang my outfit out the night before… but rarely. Like I mentioned earlier, goals. The next morning rolls around and I find myself spending time trying to put together a stylish outfit and I’m not feeling inspired + TIME is ticking. Do you wake up often only to find yourself going through your closet thinking you have nothing to wear? You know you own some amazing pieces…. but can’t seem to put together an outfit on the go? If you can relate, kindly keep reading.
Today on the blog, I’m sharing my DIY Outfit Album to help you get dressed in the morning efficiently + get reinspired with your wardrobe again! The first thing you want to do when you have some down time and you’re feeling your fashionista self…. go through your whole closet and lay everything out on your bed. Yes, EVERYTHING! Although it may sound like much, this gives you an opportunity to see what you’re really working with and you may be pleasantly surprised to see some special items that may have been hidden because you forgot about them or they were hiding behind other clothes. Same clothes. Goals: New Looks. Audit your clothes like you do with you life. It’s time to reinvent what you already own!

Next, put all your items into different categories based on seasons, work style, dressy, casual, weekend wear, vacay style, special events, etc. Basically, you can really get creative and have several albums like the categories I mentioned. Choose categories that work for your lifestyle. However, we’ll keep it simple today and make one album labeled: Outfit Inspiration,DailyOOTD’s,or any name that you prefer. Try to go through everything you own. I find clothes that get buried away underneath other clothes all the time. I’m a visual person and if I don’t see it, I usually forget about it.

After you have all your items in categories, it’s time for the fun part- Creating new outfits!! I always suggest starting with a top or bottom. Start with a focal basic and build your outfit around it. Add layers. Add accessories. Add texture. Select pieces that add interest to your outfit and elevate it. Need some inspiration? I like to check out Pinterest, Fashion magazines, Instagram and You tube when I’m feeling uninspired. Once you figure out your outfit, create a flat lay on your bed and take a picture. Snap! You now have a ready to go OOTD picture you can refer to next time you get dressed. Use your camera phone and create an album with outfits you’ve created + add photos of looks you saved from other sources of inspiration. Going through all your clothes may take some time so schedule an afternoon during one of your weekends, turn on some music, pour yourself a drink of choice and enjoy yourself. You could even invite your fashionista friend who would love doing something like this and get inspired together!

Bonus STYLE TIP: Take a selfie of yourself wearing the outfit. This is a little extra but it will help you know exactly how the clothes fit and to make sure you’re comfortable as well.
New year, new clothes, new look. But before you go shopping like that, I hope this post inspires to re-evaluate and get creative in your closet first. The album is simply to help you save time in the am/pm so you can spend that extra time doing something else. Who doesn’t like extra time? Your time is valuable. Get your clothes organized and get dressed efficiently in 2019. What closet goals do you have in mind this year? Leave a comment. As always, thank you for reading along.
All my best,
Sokha
