Smart Casual attire is required for entry to main dining, specialty dining, and the Celebrity Theatre. Smart Casual means you look comfortable yet tasteful in a dress, skirt, long pants, or jean, and stylish top or button-down. Shorts and flip flops are not considered Smart Casual.

If you're having dinner in the main restaurant or any meal at one of the specialty restaurants, you'll follow a “smart casual” dress code on most nights.

Carnival is one line where casual is the name of the game. Passengers will be fine in jeans, T-shirts, tank tops, shorts and bathing suits for their days on board or ashore. At night, nice jeans and nice tops are perfect for eating in the main dining rooms.

On formal evenings and for the Chef's Table dining experience, cruisers are expected to wear black-tie attire, which includes tuxedos, suits with ties, co*cktail dresses and evening gowns. The number of formal nights per cruise depends on the length of the sailing.

A good rule of thumb for cruisers is to always pack at least one pair of long pants that are not jeans, for dinners onboard. As far as dress prohibitions, cruise lines tend to follow policies similar to airlines, disallowing guests from wearing clothing bearing messages that are distasteful or patently offensive.

You should average two outfits per day, as you'll wear one during the day and one at night for dinner. I find that I like to re-wear at least two or three outfits at night to save space. Plus, I just don't like having to plan seven different outfits for each night. This, however, is a personal preference.

Smart casual is professional but a little relaxed - a polished take on more casual pieces of clothing as well as casual or fun items paired back with smarter pieces. Items are typically less structured and the formality downgraded from traditional corporate wear.

The good news is that denim in the form of jeans, jackets, shorts and skirts is generally a perfectly acceptable daytime casual cruise look, often combined with a T-shirt but check before you go for lunch – those designer jeans may cut it for a promenade on deck but some lines don't allow jeans in their restaurants, ...

Evening Chic means you dress to impress, glamorous and sophisticated in your own way, with a co*cktail dress, skirt, slacks, or designer jean, an elegant dress top or blazer—some guests even pack a tuxedo or gown for onboard photos.

What to wear on embarkation day? ›

Comfort is Crucial: Opt for breathable fabrics and comfortable shoes. You'll be on your feet, checking in, and exploring the ship. Be Activity Ready: Plan your outfit based on your first-day activities. If poolside lounging is on the agenda, consider wearing your swimsuit underneath.

On cruise casual nights, the line recommends slacks, khakis, jeans, long dress shorts and collared sport shirts for men, and casual dresses or skirts, pants, capri pants, dress shorts and jeans with blouses for women.

For women, the dress code may ask for sundresses, skirts and blouses, dress shorts and capri pants are acceptable. Don't wear sleeveless shirts (for men), cut-off jeans, T-shirts or gym shorts. If you want to attend a “cruise elegant” evening, bring a fancier, more formal outfit.

On warm-weather cruises, loungewear and beachwear are suitable both onboard and off the ship. Pack T-shirts, tank tops and other clothes that are easy to mix and match. In cooler weather, passengers will wear hiking pants, jeans and some loungewear.

For the most part, cruise dining rooms are 'smart casual' or 'business casual' for dinner. Formal night is dressy, but not black tie. The main thing is they prefer not to have tank tops, shorts, flip flops for dinner. We wore jeans and a plain shirt for regular dinner.
