Spamton G. Spamton, better known as simply Spamton or his boss form Spamton NEO, is a major antagonist in Chapter 2 of the indie-game Deltarune, serving as a supporting antagonist/bonus boss in the Normal Route and the main antagonist of the SnowGrave/"Weird" Route. He's also the titular main protagonist of the $pamton Sweepstakes! charity event.

He's a homeless, unhinged salesman from the Cyber World who crosses paths with Kris and tries to take their SOUL under the promise of turning them into a big shot. That said, he has deep secrets and hidden knowledge, and is in fact the bonus boss of the chapter. He's presumably the archenemy of Tenna.

Debated Validations[]

• The official Q&A implies he cares about Noelle Holiday, due to her being the only one who read his e-mails, and sending her a Pipis as a gift. That said, given how he's willing to torture her and help the SOUL corrupt her into a serial killer, this is debatable at the very best.
• He's implied to still miss the Addisons giving how he talks about "MUTTERING YOUR [Lost Friends] NAMES AT THE BOTTOM OF A [Dumpster]" while projecting onto Kris. That said, during the Twitter Q&A, he claims he doesn't care or want to see them again, and implies that he either wants to get revenge on them ("I'LL BE SHOWING YOU WHO'S [Business]!!!") or views them as so pathetic they're not even worth killing ("THEY'RE GONE FROM MY [Scrapbook], NOT EVEN IN MY [Crapbook]"), so this is pretty debatable and he might've gotten over it.

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

• Even though he does have countless comedic moments across both the game and the Sweepstakes!, they don’t exactly take away from the horrific effect in his behavior and actions, as he is still played for horror numerous times due to his insanity, intentions, backstory, world salad of a speech impediment and tragic past.
• While he is completely unhinged and implied to be controlled by a higher being, Spamton has a knowledge of right and wrong as he can redeem himself, and the entity puppeteering him intervenes only when he's about to reveal something secret, and otherwise everything he does is out of his own will.
• While he may not be as bad as the omnicidal Knight, it is worth noting that Spamton still stands out for having lower resources than it since he is just a homeless salesman while the Knight has the power to create Dark Worlds.
• Even before his turn to villainy, he was using the disappearance of Noelle's sister Dess to trick her into reading his e-mails.
• Ever since his fall from grace, he devoted his life to ripping people off.
• He's planning to get revenge on those who wronged him by making them live in the garbage like he was and then killing them, mentioning how he and Kris will "THOSE [Schmoes] AND [Daves] INTO [Rosen Graves]" and that he'll make them beg for "MY [$#&*]" (the censored thing being unknown, but presumably mercy).
  • It's also implied he would go as far as to torture at least one of them - more specifically Tenna - given how he mentions turning "THOSE [Cathode Screens] INTO [Cathode Screams]", which suggests he plans to make him scream.
• While he did have a friendship with Swatch, he gets rid of it, outright despising him for throwing away their friendship while he had to be evicted from Queen's Mansion due to his loyalty to the monarch.
• For an unknown amount of time, he tried and failed to impersonate Swatch so he could enter the basem*nt and become Spamton NEO, once trying (and failing) to hire the Sweet Cap'n' Cakes for it.
• As revealed during the $pamton Sweepstakes!, him usurping Queen on the Weird Route is not something he came up with at the last second but something he's been planning for a long time, with implications he would go as far as to get her killed, given his mentions of a [Dead Pharaoh] and that her wine glass would become a collector's item.
• When he first sees Kris and recognizes them as a Lightner, and thus a being with a SOUL, he tries to scam them into giving him it, believing it would grant him "freedom". It's also shown that he's very much aware of the fact it would kill Kris, even if he implies through other dialogue he believes he's genuinely helping them.
• If the player/Kris completes his side-quest, then after becoming Spamton NEO, he tries to kill Kris, Susie and Ralsei to gain the former's SOUL.
• While all of that is bog standard villainy, his actions in the Weird Route are what truly make him cross the line:
  • He helps the player/Kris in their slaughter across the Cyber World and emotional abuse of Noelle, telling them how many they have to kill and selling them the Thorn Ring to make Noelle even stronger. It also makes him partially responsible for Berdly's death and, depending on how many Darkners you've killed before talking to him in the dumpster, anywhere from 4 to 9 other people.
  • He's indirectly torturing Noelle as the Thorn Ring drains her health and has been outright called by Susie to be a torture device.
  • Using the power-vacuum and Queen's ignorance, he takes over her mansion for himself and flooding the mansion with Pipis. It's also possible he's the one that locked the butlers in Color Cafe, but it might be because of Rouxls Kaard turning to stone right at the door.
  • He makes it clear with his dialogue he's trying to take over not only the mansion, but also Cyber City and the entire Cyber World.
  • He attacks and tries to kill Kris when they try to seal the Fountain.
  • He mocks Berdly's death and the abuse Noelle goes through by calling the former as "making [Frozen Chicken]" and calling Noelle Kris' "[Side Chick]" and a "[Hochi Mama]".
  • While he claims to be disgusted at Kris for what they done, he's a complete hypocrite as he helped in the slaughter (something he himself acknowledges), and fights them for purely selfish reasons.
  • He mocks Kris' attempts at calling for help, telling them no one will come to save them, and even if they did, it won't be enough to beat him.
• He also does several things during the $pamton Sweepstakes! event, although it's worth to note they are questionably canon and not taken all that seriously:
  • While describing the prizes, he claims to have "[painfully modified] A [loving creature]" to create the Worm-On-A-String prize, tries to scam the viewer into giving him the Fangamer gift cards, tries to trick them into thinking they have a legal right to run people down with his Cungadero Crossing Sign, is selling a scented candle with the smell being his own ass that apparently gives you a headache in seconds, is selling a belt that will apparently want people to beat up the wearer of it so he could "[sneak out the back]", and is selling an inedible choking hazard.
  • During the Twitter Q&A, he claims that he tried/wants to extract Dess Holiday's personal information for profit, claims that he'll show the Addisons who's business, and tries to scam a fan into clicking on a virus that will destroy their computer.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

• He is tragic for numerous reasons.
  • He was once a random salesman who nobody noticed, until one phone call from someone made him into a big shot who was popular enough to get a room in Queen's Mansion. This lead to his old friends, the Addisons, abandoning him out of nothing but enviness. After running a good business for anywhere from weeks to years, the mysterious person on the other side of the phone disappeared, thanks to which he slowly losing everything he had. Just as he was supposed to be evicted from the Mansion, one last phone call drove him to complete insanity and seemingly forcefully transformed him into both a metaphorical and literal puppet.
  • He seemingly has been traumatized to the point of hallucinating a non-existent audience taking all the furniture in his room during the Spamton NEO fight, and also went through a traumatic event that had him scream for whatever/whoever it was to stop as "it burns", which might or might not have been being dropped into acid.
  • His main goal in life is to simply be in control of it, and the one thing he believes could give him that made his lack of control even more obvious by making him literally held up by strings. There is no happy ending for him in any of the endings, and he is always doomed to either die or remain a puppet.
  • His fate on the Neutral Route is played for sympathy, as when he believes Kris is actually setting him free, he suddenly drops dead on the floor without his strings, forcing him to realise he needs them to be alive. This is what finally makes him give up and accept his fate after numerous tries at getting freedom.
  • The $pamton Sweepstakes! event reveals even more sympathetic qualities, such as being manipulated with "[visions of glory]", having a past full of brutal assaults (even if that was played for laughs), and claims to feel like he's dying every day.
  • Even on the Weird Route, where he all but outright subverts it by going too far, he still has a small moment of sympathy when he projects himself onto Kris and indirectly reveals he misses his friends and believes nobody's gonna help him.
  • This also includes sympathetic insecurities: It's heavily implied that he genuinely believes he's all alone and that nobody will save him, and the entire concept of having friends is alien to him followed by what happened. According to the official Q&A, he even believes the Addisons and Swatch never cared about him in the first place and were just faking their friendship.
• He has a minimal sense of honor, as he always allows the player to spawn a mini-Spamton angel to heal them on all of his battles, even the one on the Weird Route.
• He has care for Mike and his Pipis:
  • When it comes to Mike, he explicitly states he is the one person he won't harm during his quest for revenge. He's also incredibly protective of him, as seen during the Twitter Q&A where he aggressively states the fans won't learn anything about him and to leave him out of this, paranoid at the possibility they are members of a crew working for Tenna. In his shop, upon being reminded of Mike, he warns Kris to not believe anything they see on TV, implying Tenna is spreading slander about Mike. He also asks him if he's "GETTING ALL THIS" if defeated through violence as Spamton NEO, implying he wants Mike to see his rise to glory. Both in his shop and on a secret website, he also talks about him in what seems like a mournful tone. While he does claim he doesn't need him anymore, it's unknown just what he means by that, and that doesn't negate all the previous moments that show he still cares for him.
  • While their sapience is debatable at best, his care for Pipis is genuine, asking Kris "WHAT ARE MY [[Eggs]] GOING TO DO" during the Spamton NEO battle, and according to the official Q&A, views them as "The Boys", is disgusted at the fact people are thinking about frying them, and claims that calling them eggs is offensive and only he can call them that due to being their friend.
• He also has a few redeeming qualities that apply only to the Normal Route, and not the Weird Route:
  • Even if he tries to kill Kris, it's been made clear he genuinely views them as his only friend and wants to help them as much as he wants to help himself, believing that the two will be free people that are "MAKING THE [Calls]" in Heaven and won't have to worry about being controlled by someone else. He also warns them about Tenna, and how they shouldn't believe what they see on TV. On the Weird Route, however, he never expresses any care and outright mocks them.
  • In both endings of the Spamton NEO fight, Spamton ultimately accepts that he cannot free himself and, out of respect for the Delta Warriors due to their strength, redeems himself and turns into either a weapon or armor for them to equip. If spared, he even expresses gratitude once he realises they're trying to help him and proclaims that he will live "for himself and his friends". On the Weird Route, he dies a villain and never feels anything positive towards them.

Trivia[]

• Spamton is currently the icon of the plagiarism template.
• Due to the fact that Spamton doesn't display his redeeming qualities on the Weird Route, his Weird Route version was once classified as Near Pure Evil. However, he was later removed as video game villains can't be NPE based off one ending alone and all endings need to be taken into consideration, including the one where he redeems himself.
