These Maine Restaurants Are Incredibly Underrated

The state of Maine continues to grow and become a foodie destination. Portland alone is iconic when it comes to great food and world-class chefs. It seems like every couple of months a new celebrity from the Food Network or Netflix is here to try some amazing dishes with a film crew.

Fine steaks, fried seafood, lobster, lobster rolls, lobster grilled cheese, lobster tacos, lobster macaroni and cheese… Think of this scene from Forrest Gump where Bubba listed everything his family would do with shrimp.

There are a few restaurants with names everyone recognizes that will travel miles and miles for dinner. They are great, of course! But I wanted to know more about the hidden gems, the holes in the wall. The kind of places where everyone knows your name. For me, this is where the real magic happens. This is where memories are made.

These are the places you bring your parents for their birthday or an old friend from college you haven’t seen in years. This is where family birthday parties, first dates, outings with high school friends take place.

So I decided to do some incredibly scientific research and watch the Facebook people. After dozens of recommendations from all over the state, I was able to put together a list of the top 10 establishments in Maine that you simply cannot miss!

Check out the full list below. Are there any you would like to add? Let us know via our must-have station app!
